While it’s still c-c-c-cold outside, it’s time to start planning your wardrobe updates for Spring! You can thank me for not writing this last fall, when these pretty fashions graced the runway.
I’ve picked my top 5 trends for Spring, with those 40+ in mind!
Flats and Low Heels. I’m starting with shoes. Since I really can’t wear my favorite 4-inch pumps any longer, I am thrilled that flats are back! But don’t fall back on the bulky, I’m-only-after-comfort styles. These will make you look matronly. Check out the rich colors and textures, pointier toes and interesting heels.

Bermuda Shorts. Good bye, bum-baring cutoffs! Not that we would dare! But now, we’re actually in wearing the longer variety. Try bermudas in place of the capris you’ve been wearing for a decade. They are a fresher option and tend to make those of you under 5’7” look taller than the capris.

Beautiful Beading. I love the delicate beading found on this season’s scarves, tops, skirts and dresses! Don’t overdue it. The key to wearing beads well, is to wear them sparingly! You don’t want to look like the rhinestone cowgirl – well, maybe you do, but not routinely. (Love the beading on the dress above!)
Black and White. I have to ask, when did this color combo ever go out? To me, one can never go wrong with crisp black and white. It is easily dressed up and if you want a pop, do it with a pair of hot pink kate Spade ballet flats! Classic and WOW!

Sporty Dresses. Ok, I was reluctant to add this one. But I really do love them and they are easy to wear for those of us of a certain age. But make sure you don’t wear something that looks like a tennis skirt! Length should be just above the knee. These look great with wedges and the new, low heeled shoes! So go for it. Just one!

3 trends I’m ready to see go…already!
Bold Stripes. You might ask what’s the deal with stripes? Nothing. It’s the BOLD I’m worried about. By all means, invest in a striped tee for summer, but stripes that are too wide can make you look larger and shorter. So remember proportion!
Luxe Leather. Again, I love leather. But I just don’t think leather in the summer is a good choice. Especially, if you’re a midwesterner like me. Can you image your sweltering self when the mercury hits 95 degrees? Enough said.
Peek a Boo Pieces. Chic, classic, modest. Peed-a-Boo anything is none of this. Even our daughters should skip this one.
Let me know what you’d like to add to your closet this spring.

I’m personally loving the bold stripes trend! So fun. thanks for your sweet comment today. It’s nice to “meet” you!
